Whiskers and Kisses
A twist on a classic whiskey sour with fresh lemon and a secret ingredient.
Ingredients:
2 ounces bourbon
1 ounce fresh lemon juice (about a half lemon)
¾ ounce maple syrup (trust me – this is delicious and won’t taste like pancakes!)
½ orange wheel and Maraschino cherry for garnish
Combine bourbon, lemon juice, and maple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Fill shaker with ice, cover, and shake vigorously until outside of shaker is very cold, about 20 seconds. Strain cocktail into an old-fashioned or rocks glass filled with ice. Garnish with orange wheel and cherry, speared onto a toothpick.
Bee’s Knees
A Prohibition era classic, perfect for Spring.
Ingredients:
1 ounce honey syrup (see below)
1 ounce lemon juice (about ½ medium lemon)
2 ounces gin
Lemon twist, for garnish
To make the honey syrup, combine equal parts honey and hot water and stir until completely blended. Allow to cool. (If you’re only making one cocktail, use about 2 tablespoons of water and 2 tablespoons of honey. But it will keep in the refrigerator for about a month if you want to make a larger batch.)
Chill a coupe or martini glass. Before juicing your lemons, peel off a strips of zest for your twist.
To make the cocktail, fill a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour in the honey syrup, lemon juice and gin. Securely fasten the lid and shake until the mixture is very cold, about 20 seconds.
Strain the drink into a coupe or martini glass. Twist the lemon peel over the cocktail to release some of its oils, then drop it in.
Kitten Tail (non alcoholic)
A fun, fruity, non-alcoholic drink for all ages. If you decide you want to make it more adult, add the spirit of your choice – vodka, tequila and rum would all work well.
Ingredients:
3 ounces of orange juice
Dash of grenadine (about a tablespoon, depending on how sweet you want your drink)
Club Soda
Fill a Collins (tall) glass with ice. Add orange juice, pour in the grenadine and then top with soda. Garnish with fresh mint. Don’t stir, but serve with a reusable or paper straw.
Pup Tail (non-alcoholic)
This berry flavored refreshing mocktail isn’t too sweet.
Ingredients:
Juice of half a lime
10 raspberries or blueberries.
4-6 ounces ginger ale
Fresh mint sprigs (for garnish)
Put the berries into a Collins (tall) glass. Muddle with lime juice. Fill glass with ice and then top with ginger ale. Garnish with fresh mint and maybe a berry or two.
